The Irish Soil Information System project has gathered together existing information and data from previous soil survey work in Ireland and augmented it with a new field campaign, leading to the production of a new national soil map at a scale of ,, as well as a collection of tools to access and interact with the data. "Soil Geographical Database for Eurasia and The Mediterranean: Instructions Guide for elaboration at scale ,,”. Therefore the current guide is the foundation for Version of the Soil Geographical Database of Europe and will form the main component of Version of the European Soil Database (Lambert et al., ).File Size: 4MB.

The book finishes with a chapter on the uses and needs in Europe of soil information, and a listing of conclusions and recommendations. The INFOSOLO database is the most comprehensive effort ever made to organize soil information in Portugal. It currently includes a set of horizons/layers studied in soil profiles across the country (), from which only contain data for the topsoil horizon/ information of a large number of soil related parameters, namely on physical and chemical properties, were obtained Cited by: 7.

Extraordinary, in-depth syntheses of topical areas of soil science written by authoritative scientists who have contributed substantially to the field of soil science. The Russell Reviews were named in recognition of Prof. E.W. Russell whose contribution to soil science education are epitomised by in the textbook ‘Russell’s Soil Conditions. Brussels. Belgium We are living on a unique planet, the only one in the solar system where life exists. The very existence of life has modified the physical and chemical environment of the earth, its atmosphere and oceans, in a way that makes life sustainable. This system with its complex cybernetic mechanisms has been named GAIA by Lovelock.

European Soil Bureau (ESBN) > Soil Information System The core of this system is currently the European Soil Database, based on thescale ‘Soil Geographical Database of Europe’ (Jamagne et al., ) that is currently covering Europe. More then 20 years of collaboration between European soil scientists has resulted in the publication by the European Commission of the first ever "Soil Atlas of Europe".

Based on soil data and information collected within the European Soil Information System (EUSIS) developed by the Joint Research Centre, the atlas illustrates in pages of maps, tables, figures and graphs, the richness of European soil resources.

The European Soil Information System and its Extension to the Mediterranean Basin mitigating the negative environmental consequences, which might result.

They confirmed their attachment to the Barcelona Convention and the Mediterranean Action Plan. More recently, the entry into force of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. The Umbrisol Reference Soil Group belongs to the set of mineral soils conditioned by a (sub)humid temperate climate.

Umbriols occupy about 1 m illion km 2 throughout the world. Many Umbrisols of the world are under a natural or near-natural vegetation cover. European Soil Database: The European Soil Database (ESDB) is the main source of information from which most other data information and services are derived.

For instance, the “European Soil Database v2 Raster Library” contains raster (grid) data files with cell sizes of both 1km x 1km and 10km x 10km for a large number of soil related. iii | State of soil in Europe "All natural resources are soil or derivatives of soil.

Farms, ranges, crops, and livestock, forests, irrigation water and even water power resolve themselves into questions of soil. Soil is therefore the basic natural resource.".

The European Environment Agency’s (EEA) Signalspublished today, looks at a series of issues linked to land and soil, including links to climate change, agriculture, soil biodiversity, contamination and governance, and stresses why we need to manage them sustainably. To mark the International Day of Soil on December 5, we interviewed several project managers at the European Environment Agency (EEA) about this precious resource.

The UN has declared the Year of Soils, to raise increase awareness and understanding of the importance of soil, for both food security and essential ecosystem functions. EUGRIS is a web portal offering information and services on topics related to soil and water. EUGRIS operates as a community of collaborating projects, people and organisations who co-operate to supply information for the benefit of everyone and also to promote themselves and disseminate their work.

The Soil Geographical Database of Europe atforms the geometric component of the European Soil Database which is part of the European Soil Information System Cited by: European Soil Data Centre: Response to European Policy Support and Public Data Requirements.

In the context of the European Union's Soil Thematic Strategy, policy makers require easy access to soil data and information of various types and scales to assess the state of soils at European level. Multiscale European Soil Information System (MEUSIS) is based on local, regional, national and European Soil Data sets.

On the one hand, the high geographical variability of soil and the close interface between the soil status and the local conditions require the soil information and assessment criteria to have a strong built-in local element.

On the other hand, soil issues have also a broader and wider. The European Soil Erosion Model (EUROSEM) is a joint effort of many European scientists. Those who have worked on or assisted with the development of EURSOSEM are: J. Albaladejo Montoro, V. Andreu, K. Auerswald, W.
